Niobe
Background
Niobe is the wife of Lucius Vorenus and the mother of Vorena the Elder, Vorena the Younger and a boy named Lucius fathered by Evander Pulchio, her sister's husband. Her sister is Lyde. She owns a butcher shop with Lyde.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 2 How Titus Pullo Brought Down the Republic played by Indira Varma
Lucius finds Niobe in the market with Clarissa, holding a child which he assumes is her illegitimate child. Niobe tells Lucius the child is his grandson also named Lucius from his daughter Vorena the Elder and a boy named Crito. Lucius walks into the house and is introduced to his daughters Vorena the Older and Vorena the Younger. Things continue to be tense at Lucius and Niobe's house. Lucius finds out he was reported dead and his pay stopped so Niobe had to borrow money from her sister. In the end it is revealed the baby does belong to Niobe.

Evander Pulchio stops by the house of Lucius and Niobe to see his son. Niobe tells him to leave, however he tells her he loves her and says Lucius is doomed. Evander kisses Niobe and Vorena the Elder walks in, and after being told to leave again, he leaves. Vorena tells Niobe she should tell Lucius, but Niobe thinks Lucius would kill them. As word of Caesar's imminent arrival reaches Rome, people start to blockade their windows and doors and Niobe tells Clarissa she tries to love Lucius. Lucius returns home and finds Niobe praying at an alter. Lucius tells Niobe she is beautiful and then promises he will try to treat her better.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 4 Stealing from Saturn played by Indira Varma
Niobe goes to see a Diviner who tells her Lucius will probably not find out that the baby is hers and not Vorena the Elder's. Niobe is unhappy that the divination doesn't say that he will never find out, but the Diviner offers her the secondary divination that Lucius will eventually become rich. Erastes Fulmen is the first guest to arrive at Lucius' party. Niobe introduces him to Lucius and Erastes introduces his wife Erastes Fulmen is the first guest to arrive at Lucius' party. Niobe introduces him to Lucius and Erastes introduces his wife Phyllis to them. The next to arrive are Niobe's sister Lyde and Evander Pulchio. Vorena the Elder brings young Lucius to the table and Evander holds and plays with him which makes Lyde feel uncomfortable and she leaves the table. Lyde gets drunk and starts dancing with a random man and Clarissa tells Niobe she needs to get her home before she causes a scene. Clarissa tells Evander he needs to take Lyde home and when he tells Lyde she starts yelling. Niobe goes to Lyde and reminds her she vowed to keep the baby a secret. Lyde starts screaming that Lucius is a fool and then falls into the table holding the Jupiter bust, causing the bust to fall to the ground and break. Niobe cleans up after the party and Lucius tells her Lyde and Evander can no longer come to their house. Quintus Pompey, Volpe and the Syrians arrive at Lucius' home and demand to know where the gold is. Lucius denies knowing where the gold is and Niobe is about to be cut when Titus Pullo arrives on a litter with Eirene and walks into Lucius' courtyard. Quintus draws his sword and Titus distracts the Syrians by throwing coins into the air. Volpe and the Syrians are killed and Quintus is tied up. Titus walks into Lucius' home and finds Evander asking Niobe to tell him she loves Lucius.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 5 The Ram has Touched the Wall played by Indira Varma
When Lucius tells Vorena the Elder he is going to sell the Gaulish slaves he has so that he can pay her dowry and she and the baby Lucius can move in with Crito and his family, Niobe feels it is too soon. Lucius later returns with Eirene and tells Niobe that Eirene will be their house slave while Titus is at war. Niobe tells Clarissa she thinks Eirene will spy on her, but Clarissa assures her Titus has no idea about her affair with Evander. When Luicius returns with only Rubio as a slave, Niobe wonders what they will do for money. After he quits working for Erastes she again wonders how they will pay their bills. Lucius returns once more and tells her he has rejoined the army.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 6 Egeria played by Indira Varma
Lucius suggests to Niobe that they take a trip, however she tells them she cannot leave Lyde, who is worried about the disappearance of Evander, alone. As Niobe is cutting Vorena the Elder's hair, Clarissa tells Vorena that she can no longer marry Crito as Lucius' promotion has elevated their status. Niobe tells Vorena it wouldn't be decent and Vorena angrily questions Niobe on what is decent and walks away. After Lyde breaks down from Titus telling her that he heard Evander was murdered, Niobe tries to comfort her. Lyde lashes out at her and Niobe blames Evander coming to her due to Lyde being unable to have children. Lyde angrily tells Niobe that she will keep her secret, but she never wants to see Niobe again. Niobe goes to a fertility shrine and then dresses up nicely and prepares a meal for Lucius. They break bread together and then make love. When Lucius is troubled by Mark Antony not sending help to Caesar, Niobe tells him that at least they can spend time together. After the 13th Legion is mobilized by Mark Antony, Niobe says goodbye to her husband once again.

Lyde goes to Niobe's home and they reconcile after Niobe tells Lyde she doesn't know if Lucius is still alive.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 9 Utica played by Indira Varma
Niobe hugs and kisses Lucius when he returns home from Egypt. She tells him about the butcher shop she and Lyde opened and after a month of Luicus not working, she invites him to come and work for her. After Lucius slaps Urbo, Niobe tells him that Urbo works for Erastes Fulmen who has grown in power and influence and that Erastes can kill anyone he wants. Erastes comes to their home and threatens to kill Lucius and Niobe sends Vorena the Elder, Vorena the Younger and Lucius with Lyde out to the country while she stays to support Lucius. She helps dress Lucius in his robes when he is made Magistrate of Lower Aventine by Caesar.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 10 Triumph played by Indira Varma
Niobe and Posca stand with Lucius when he gives a speech to the people of Lower Aventine asking for their votes in the upcoming elections. She starts to curse at the Heckler, but is reminded by Posca to act lady like. She watches Caesar's Triumph along with Vorena the Elder, Vorena the Younger and Lucius the child. After Titus kills Oedipus in her home, she comforts a crying Eirene.
During the events of Rome: Season 1 Episode 11 The Spoils played by Indira Varma
Niobe is visiting with Clarissa when Lucius gets home and she quickly gives Clarissa some coins and hurries her out of the house. When Lucius tells Niobe that they have been invited to a party at Atia of the Julii's home, Niobe designs and creates a dress for the party. At the party, Niobe is introduced to Atia and is left to talk with her and the other women when Lucius and Caesar go off to talk business. When her and Lucius get home and go to bed, she removes her dress and is sad that some at the party made fun of her dress.

A Flamen Priest leads a procession including Niobe, Lucius, Vorena the Elder, Vorena the Younger, Lucius the child, Eirene and Rubio to the family farm, where they make an offering for luck. They arrive home and Clarissa tells them that Titus was found after running away from the hospital and brought to their house. They enter their house and Doctor tells them that Titus has split his wounds open and should not move for at least ten days. At night, Niobe catches Eirene with a knife to Titus's throat and takes the knife away and chastises Eirene. In the morning, Niobe tells Eirene to tend to Titus' dressing and feed him porridge. Lucius arrives home and asks where Lucius the child is and Niobe tells Lucius she was told he was dead. Lucius grabs a bread knife and Niobe tells him Lucius the child is innocent and jumps to her death from the balcony.
