During the events of Beetlejuice (1988) played by Winona Ryder
Lydia and her family move into the former home of Barbara and Adam. While taking pictures outside, Lydia spots Adam and Barbara in the attic window. Jane Butterfield stops by and gives Lydia the skeleton key for the house, which Lydia uses to try to go into the attic, however Adam and Barbara hold the door closed. Lydia sees Adam and Barbara wearing sheets and trying to scare her parents and confront them and they admit that they are trying to scare them out of the house. During the dinner party Delia is having for Otho, Beryl, Bernard and Grace, Lydia tells them she has seen ghosts in the house. They don't believe her until they are possessed by Barbara and Adam. Delia tells Lydia to tell Adam and Barbara to come down, but they won't. Betelgeuse manifests and attacks Lydia's family and is about to attack her when Barbara sends him back to the town model. Otho convinces Charles and Delia to invite Maxie Dean and Sarah Dean so they can get funding to make an amusement park of the town. During the dinner party, Otho uses the Handbook of the Recently Deceased he stole from Adam and Barbara to force them to appear in front of the dinner guests. Lydia calls Betelgeuse's name in order to save Barbara and Adam and he agrees to help if she will marry him. Betelgeuse is about to marry Lydia when Barbara saves her. Some time later Lydia returns home from school and as a reward for making an A on a science test, Adam and Barbara use their ghost powers to levitate her into the air.
