Harlen R. Dexter owns the Dexter Mental Health Institute in California. He is a widower and has a daughter named Veronica Dexter.
During the events of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (2005) played by Corbin Bernsen
Harlan walks up to Harry Lockhart and Gay Perry after Harry is beat up by Agent Type. After Harry and Gay Perry figure out that Harlan switched out his daughter, who was suing him, with Pink Hair Girl in order to get the lawsuit thrown out, Harlan and Aurelio take them hostage. Harlan calls Dexter Goons and tells them to cremate the body of his real daughter, who he placed in his mental health ward, and then he leaves Aurelio to torture and question Harry and Gary Perry. Harmony Faith Lane hijacks the van carrying Harlan's daughter's corpse and Harlan chases after her. He is shot and killed by Harry.
