During the night, Dayday is watching Night of the Living Dead (1968) on the television when Emma yells boo and scares him. Emma turns off the television and says that if he sits in front of the tv all day he will turn into their dad. Emma calls him a zero and says that there is a ton going on in the world and she isn’t going to miss it. She looks out the window and notices new neighbors are moving in. Dayday sees they are wearing all black. Suddenly the new neighbors, Mr. Braun, Mrs. Braun and Lex Braun look in their direction and Emma and Dayday duck out of view. Delivery Workman is delivering a large crate to the Braun house when Dayday and Emma ask him if he needs any help. The Delivery Workman tells them that the Braun’s have two large crates he is delivering and shows them the crate manifest which lists it originated from Rivne, Ukraine. The Delivery Man tells them that the items in the crate are refrigerators and when he rings the doorbell, nobody answers. Emma notices that the Braun’s car is in the driveway and Emma comes up with imaginary scenarios like the Brauns are former KGB members or Roma. As they are walking home, Mrs. Toll tells Emma and Dayday that she is late and accidentally runs into Mr. Mitchell. Dayday notices that Mr. Mitchell has a large bandage on his neck and Mr. Mitchell tells them that he is feeling under the weather. Emma asks him if he has met the Brauns and he tells them that they stopped by to introduce themselves at his house, which was the same night he started to feel sick.

Emma wakes up and then wakes Dayday up and tells him her idea that the Brauns are vampires. She tells him that when the Brauns leave for the night she is going to break into their house to see if what was delivered were refrigerators or coffins.

During the night, Emma staples garlic to the walls of the house and tells Daydy that vampires can’t enter a home unless they are invited in. Emma watches as the Brauns leave their house and then enters the house through the basement window. The doorbell rings and when Dayday answers the door, the Brauns are standing at the door and introduce themselves. They ask if they can come in, but Dayday tells them his dad isn’t home and closes the door. Mrs. Toll sees him shut the door and opens it and invites the Brauns inside. While having tea with the Brauns, Mrs. Toll asks them what they do for work and Mrs. and Mr. Braun say they have been studying American paramedics and ride along with them to learn techniques to bring back to Ukraine. Before they leave Mrs. Toll invites the Brauns to stop by anytime and Mr. Braun tells Dayday that they will return. Emma manages to figure out the lock combination but before she can open the refrigerator, she hears a creaking noise, which turns out to be Dayday coming to warn her about the Brauns returning home. Emma opens the refrigerator and inside are bottles of blood. They hear a door close and cover the refrigerator with the sheet and run back to their house but forget to put the lock back on.

Emma comes up with a plan to destroy the Brauns tomorrow after school and she and Dayday take wooden stakes and crosses and then sneak back into the Brauns basement. Emma goes to where she thinks the coffins are and finds it locked. The door opens from upstairs just as Emma manages to figure out the lock and Mrs. Braun walks into the basement, but then leaves. Dayday and Emma leave the basement and see Mr. and Mrs. Braun walking outside holding a cooler with a red cross symbol and they tell them that they have been storing excess blood for the hospital in their refrigerators. Mrs. Braun asks Dayday if Lex can come over later and Dayday makes fun of Emma for thinking the Brauns were vampires.
