Blood
Background
Blood is an intelligent telepathic canine that has lost the ability to hunt. He and Vic have formed a bond where Blood sniffs for women while Vic hunts for food. Blood was told about Over the Hill from a police dog.
During the events of A Boy and His Dog (1975)
Blood and Vic wander around the remains of Phoenix, Arizona. Blood teaches Vic the history of the United States and corrects Vic's poor use of language. After Vic manages to steal a bag of canned good from Fellini, he and Blood go to a small settlement and go to a theater. Blood tells Vic that he can smell a woman and after Vic butters him up, Blood and Vic follow the woman, Quilla June Holmes, to the remains of a gymnasium. While Vic and Quilla are talking, Blood warns Vic that Rovers and their dog have tracked Quilla to the gymnasium also. They all fight off the Rovers, during which Blood is injured, and then hide when a group of Screamers go into the gymnasium. When Quilla knocks out Vic and escapes back to Down Under, Blood wants to forget about her and head towards Over the Hill, but Vic wants to go after her. When Blood and Vic get to an entrance to Down Under Blood and Vic exchange goodbyes and Vic leaves. After a few days pass and Vic returns and finds Blood almost dead. Blood tells Vic that Fellini took over the settlement they went to and so they can't go to get food. After Quilla insists Vic leave Blood behind, Vic kills and cooks Quilla for Blood. After eating Quilla, Blood regains his strength and he and Vic head towards Over the Hill.
