Background

Katherine "Kate" lives in Kingston Falls. She works at Union Savings and Trust and part time at Dorry's Tavern. Her father died on Christmas Eve when he tried to climb down the chimney dressed as Santa and fell and broke his neck.

During the events of Gremlins (1984) played by Phoebe Cates

Kate asks Billy when he comes into work to sign a petition to make Dorry's Tavern a landmark. Later, at Dorry's Tavern, Gerald hits on Kate and invites her to his apartment, which she declines. During another night, she closes the bar and tells Mr. Futterman that he should probably walk instead of driving home and she is walked home by Billy. During their walk she tells Billy that she gets sad during Christmas and later agrees to go out on a date with him. The Gremlins attack on a night that Kate is working at Dorry's and she is forced to serve them alcohol. She figures out they hate light when she tries to light one of their cigarettes and she uses a Polaroid camera to escape the tavern. She meets up with Billy outside and her, Billy and Mogwai escape to the bank. They find Mr. Corben dead and Gerald locked in the bank vault and Kate tells Billy the story of her father and why she gets sad during Christmas. They then go to the local theater and find all of the Gremlins watching Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Billy comes up with the idea to cause the theater to explode by flooding it with gas and lighting a fire, which they do, barely escaping from the Gremlins. They see Stripe go into the mall and they split up with Billy going after Stripe, while Kate and Gizmo go to find the control center to turn on the lights. Kate starts flipping switches in the control room and saves Billy who was about to be sawed by a chainsaw carrying Stripe when she turns on the lights. Kate makes it to the garden area and sees Stripe dissolve into a puddle of goop. She goes home with Billy and is present when Grandfather comes to collect Gizmo.
