Tanner
Background
Tanner is a lieutenant in the Air Force with the 123rd Strategic Missile Wing at Tipton Air Force Base in California.

Tanner and Denton are reporting for duty when Denton tells Tanner that he has made a request for a roster change, because he doesn't think he and Tanner make a compatible team. They get to their work stations after relieving Technician and a Captain and almost immediately afterwards, incoming missiles are spotted on the radar heading towards major cities within the United States. Tanner and Denton receive a message and arm and then fire missiles back at the Soviet Union. They both then go to the control center and watch along with Technician, Landers, and Colonel as missiles rain down on the United States. Months later, Tanner is returning from Barstow, California on his dirt bike, with what appears to be a passenger with him. He tells Keegan he brought him a model to paint and then Tanner makes his way towards base. On his way there he has to dodge Giant Scorpions and eventually he abandons his passenger. When he gets to base Keegan shoots towards him for abandoning his passenger and Tanner explains it was only a mannequin. An explosion erupts at the main base and Tanner and Keegan run towards it but find it engulfed in flames. A few days later, Denton and Perry drive out of the garage in the Landmasters they built and offer to take Tanner and Keegan with them to Albany, New York. On their way towards Las Vegas, a storm hits and Tanner ignores protocol to stop and dig in and instead tries to outrun the storm. He and Denton return to pick up Perry and Keegan who had dug in and find Keegan injured and Perry dead. They continue to Las Vegas where they find Janice who had been in a bomb shelter when the nuclear strike hit and bring her with them. They stop in Salt Lake City, Utah to pick up some gasoline and Tanner and Janice go into town to look for supplies on his dirt bike. They are surrounded by Killer Roaches and are forced to flee before finally meeting back up with Denton. Later, while Tanner is driving he sees Billy staring at him through a shack window and he and the others chase Billy. They offer to take him with them and he agrees to go with them if Tanner promises to teach him how to ride the dirt bike. They come to a stop at Ellen's Cafe to try and find some more gasoline and while they are there they are ambushed by Man/Guard, Mountain Man 2 and two other men. Tanner shoots and kills two of the men when Billy sneaks him Denton's pistol that they initially took away, while Denton kills Mountain Man 2 by firing a rocket from the Landmaster in the cafe while he is in it. They continue to Detroit, Michigan to look for spare parts and while they are there the Earth's axis returns to normal causing the skies to clear, but a large flood to erupt. They surface near a lake and while Tanner and Denton are arguing about who is going to ride the dirt bike, a radio message comes on the air from Gloria in Albany. Denton contacts Gloria and she gives them her coordinates and Tanner and Billy get on the dirt bike and ride towards Albany. They get there and are immediately greeted by a group of happy people.
