Pontius Pilate
Background
Pontius Pilate is a Roman aristocrat and friend of Quintus Arrius.
During the events of Ben-Hur (1959) played by Frank Thring
While at at a party held by Quintus Arrius, Pontius Pilate is introduced to Judah Ben-Hur. He asks Ben-Hur what Judea is like and later tells Quintus that he is to be made the governor of Judea. He introduces the charioteers and starts the race where Ben-Hur competes with Messala and after Ben-Hur wins, awards Ben-Hur the victory wreath and tells him he is now a god of the people. Later, when he and Ben-Hur talk, Ben-Hur tells Pontius Pilate that Rome is to blame for many of the problems of the world and Pontius Pilate warns him that he cannot protect him from Roman law. At the trial of Jesus, Pontius Pilate washes his hands of Jesus' fate and Jesus is condemned to die.
