Phoebe walks into Central Perk and Ross asks her how her date went. She tells him that it didn't go so well due to him saying they should do this again. Ross, Monica, Joey, and Chandler understand the hidden meaning, but Rachel doesn't understand why him saying that was bad. Ross then recalls Judy and Jack telling him that they took his dog Chi-Chi to the Milner's Farm. Back at the coffee house, Monica tells the others that a man's genitals can be approximated by comparing the length of his outstretched thumb to the tip of his outstretched index finger, which the guys then check. Phoebe walks in and tells the others that her bank gave her 500 extra dollars in her account. The others and Rachel think she should keep it, but Phoebe is at first hesitant. They catch Chandler smoking and get on his case. Monica tells the others she is about to go on her date with Alan and tells them that they can't meet him.
At work, Monica tells Paula that she doesn't want to bring Alan to meet her friends as none of her dates are ever good enough for them. Paula thinks that Monica's friends are looking out for her. At the coffee house, Rachel, Ross, Chandler and Joey tell Monica they won their baseball game with the help of Alan who brought them together as a team.
Phoebe goes to the coffee house and shows the others the thumb she found in her can. The others get on Chandler's case for smoking and he points out the flaws that the others have, Joey's knuckle cracking, Ross' over-pronunciation, and Monica's laugh snort. Joey asks if his knuckle cracking is really annoying and then points out Phoebe's hair eating, who in turn points out Rachel's inability to get anyone's order right. Chandler then smiles as the others start to argue. Monica tells Paula that all her friends like Alan, but she doesn't feel the same way. Paula tells her that she should just dump Alan, but Monica worries how her friends will take it. Phoebe tells the others that the soda company paid her $7000 for her finding the thumb in the can. Later, Monica tells Alan that she is breaking up with him and he tells her that he liked her, but couldn't stand her friends.
