Acastus

Background

Acastus is from Thessaly. He is the son of King Pelias. Acastus is an expert with the slingshot.

During the events of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) played by Gary Raymond

Acastus is sent by Pelias to join Jason and his crew and then to steal the Golden Fleece. He competes in Jason's Olympic Games and earns a spot on the Argo. When the crew starts running low on water he suggests that they turn back. After Hercules refuses to leave the Isle of Bronze before finding Hylas, Acastus goads the crew into refusing to leave without Hercules. Acastus questions Jason once more when they arrive on Phrygia and Jason offers to help King Phineus against the Harpies. When Lynceus falls to his death near the Clashing Rocks, Acastus nonchalantly suggest there was no way to save him from the water. After Acastus once more questions Jason's judgment, Jason accuses Acastus of planning on putting a knife in his back and Acastus demands Jason fight him. Acastus jumps off the Argo when Jason gets the upper hand and then kills Euphemus who jumps into the water after him. He then goes to King Aeetes and tells him Jason and the Argonauts plan on stealing the Golden Fleece. While the Argonauts are imprisoned, Acastus tries to steal the Golden Fleece, but is killed by the Hydra.
