Background
GERTY is a robot stationed at the Sarang to help Sam Bell. Sam placed a coffee cup on one of Gerty’s ledges to appear like it is holding a coffee cup.
During the events of Moon (2009)
When Sam 5 crashes into the harvester, GERTY 3000 thaws out Sam 6. As Sam 5 begins searching for answers that will prove he is or is not a clone, GERTY provides him with the password to look at Sam Bell's file on the computer database. GERTY agrees to be rebooted so the ELIZA Rescue Crew will not be able to see what Sam 5 and Sam 6 have been doing.
