Detailed Synopsis
Captain Flint digs a hole to bury Rackham and Anne Bonny's treasure chest in. John Silver asks Flint if he thinks it is a good idea to bury the chest without telling friends and Rackham agrees with Flint that it is best that The Maroon Queen doesn't know. Flint tells Silver that The Maroon Queen knows and she agreed to it as long as Silver knew where it was hidden. Silver asks Flint if he is having second thoughts about the upcoming war with England and the soon to be personal losses that will happen on both sides, but Flint only regrets the necessity of it. Silver asks Flint what caused the rift between him and England, but Flint doesn't answer. The battle begins and Captain Chamberlain's ships open fire on the hasty defenses, the defenders have put up. Rackham and Anne watch the battle from their ship and Rackham tells Anne of his plan to get a group of their men onboard one of the British ships to disrupt their line. Sails are spotted and De Groot tells them that six ships are heading their way and De Groot thinks they are British reinforcements. Rackham tells Lookout to describe the ships and Rackham realizes that it is the pirate armada.
The British troops land on the island and the pirates and Maroons begin firing at them. Flint orders his men to concentrate their fire on the artillery mortars. The mortars start to fire on the island defenses and Dooley suggests they retreat, but Flint eventually tells his men to retreat. Major Rollins orders his men to follow after Flint, but Captain Benjamin Hornigold tells him that Flint only wants them to quickly follow him so they can be ambushed. While Eleanor Guthrie is talking with Mr. Soames, Max and Captain Throckmorton show her a piece of paper with a black mark and a threat if Captain Charles Vane's body is not removed from the gibbet. Throckmorton tells Eleanor that someone left it on the foot of his bed while he slept. Throckmorton thinks it is an empty threat, but Max suggests they remove Vane's body to quell some of the unrest. Soames thinks that removing the body would give the appearance that they are weak, and Eleanor agrees with him.
Dr. Marcus calls for Eleanor and she goes to see Woodes Rogers. Rogers stares at Vane's body and tells Eleanor that he supports her decision to punish Vane. Rackham and Anne go onto Blackbeard's ship and tell him of the British attack. Blackbeard tells them that Vane is dead and Rogers had him hung. Rackham then asks Blackbeard to join the fight with them. Flint tells Silver about his relationship with Thomas Hamilton and what started his war with England. Silver tells Flint that he chose Dobbs to lead Hornigold into a trap. Flint is surprised that Silver chose Dobbs due to Silver having recently punished Dobbs. Silver reveals to Flint that he believes that Dobbs feels shame for having disappointed him and will do anything he asks to regain Silver's good favor. Dobbs approaches Hornigold and tells him that he was sent to kill him by Flint, but has chosen to surrender. Dobbs tells him that he is upset that his fellow pirates betrayed him and took the side of the Maroons when he was punished. Hornigold has Dobbs shoot Pirate Prisoner in the head to prove he is not lying, which Dobbs does and Hornigold sets him free.
Madi leads a child into a hidden cave and tells The Maroon Queen that everyone is accounted for and ready. She then tells The Maroon Queen that she is going to fight with the men. Jacob Garrett tells Billy Bones that he dropped off the black spot at Throckmorton's bed, but Throckmorton ignored it. Mrs. Mapleton asks Max why she didn't tell Eleanor about Idelle and her partners and as they are walking, the dead body of Throckmorton falls hanging into the square. Chamberlain's Lieutenant asks Chamberlain if the ships approaching are allies. Blackbeard tells Rackham that he doesn't understand why Vane ever had faith in Rackham's ability. Blackbeard tells Ellers, who is disguised as a British Navy sailor along with Blackbeard's other men, to get his logbook. Rackham suggests to Blackbeard that they try to appear to be horribly incompetent, so Chamberlain underestimates them. Blackbeard then follows his advice and raises his pirate flag. Silver hands Madi a rifle and she tells him that The Maroon Queen let her fight, because she knows that soon, Madi will have to take her place as the leader of their people.
Kofi tells Madi that Hornigold and his men are there. Hornigold tells Mr. Smalls to tell Rollins where they are located. Chamberlain orders his ships to fire upon Blackbeard's ships and Anne and a small group of pirates jump into the water under cover of smoke. Hornigold's men and the British troops start firing upon the Maroon camp. Hornigold looks at Dobbs, who is smiling at him and realizes he and Rollins have been led into a trap. The pirates and Maroons ambush Hornigold and Rollins' men and start to slaughter them. Dobbs walks towards Hornigold, who shoots and kills him. Hornigold's Boatswain has his men continue to fire upon Blackbeard's ship, but is then boarded by Anne and the pirates who kill him and his crew. Anne has the pirates on Hornigold's ship fire upon the British Navy ships. Chamberlain realizes he has lost and orders Chamberlain's Lieutenant to order the retreat. Hornigold charges at Flint, who shoots and kills him. Flint yells at the retreating British to tell Rogers that he is coming. Billy, Jacob, Idelle, Featherstone, Wayne, and Ben Gunn come up with a name for John to use for their propaganda and come up with the name Long John Silver.
