On Sunday after church, Robert Jr. and Hilary get to the home and Hilary shows Ms. Johnson their newborn baby, Alexandria. Alex and her family arrive later and go to see Alexandria. Stacey is the last to arrive and tells Mother about school. Mother tells her that the Johnson women deserve a man who will take care of them. Sam brings in some fish that he cooked and asks Mother to try it. After she takes a bite, Robert Jr. takes a bite and brings up how Sam's restaurant failed. Sam and Robert Jr. start to argue and Dad stops them from fighting. Lisa asks Mother how she and Dad met and she tells Lisa, Hilary, Stacey and Melanie how on their first date, Dad brought her roses and they went on his fishing boat. All the women decide to do a shopping day next to Stacey's college. Lil Sam yells that dinner is ready and at dinner, Robert starts off by giving thanks followed by the rest of the family. Alex announces that she and Sam are going to open another restaurant. Robert Jr. gets up to get some wine and goes back to the table and raises a toast to Sam and Alex and says may their new restaurant not be like their old one and that it be a success. Mother notices that Hilary looks sad and asks her if she is okay. A fight breaks out in the kitchen between Robert Jr. and Sam. Robert tells Mother that Hilary told Robert Jr. she wants a divorce. Hilary asks Mother if she and Alexandria can stay at her house overnight. Mother tells Hilary that if she needs help, to let her know.

Six months later, Mother thinks Sam should host the next dinner and that Robert is seeing a psychologist. She continues that Stacey is about to graduate college.

During the events of Johnson Family Christmas Dinner (2008) played by Lynne Conner Smith

Stephen tells Ms. Johnson, Sam and the others just arrived. Sam walks up to the house with Theresa and Chrissy and they are greeted by Stephen and Ms. Johnson. Ms. Johnson asks where James and Candy are and Theresa tells her they will be there later. James tells Theresa and Ms. Johnson about college and Michelle is the next family member to arrive. Robert Jr. comes in through the backdoor and tells Ms. Johnson he needs money to pay for the cab. Ms. Johnson tells Stephen she worries that Robert Jr. is turning into an alcoholic and mentions James is acting weird. Stephen and his family are about to start Christmas dinner when he suggests they stop to pray as it is tradition. Theresa tells everyone, Sam has something to tell everyone. Robert Jr. makes a sarcastic comment about being excited to hear the news. Candy tells everyone her and The eagle are moving in together. Theresa and Sam tell Candy she can't move in with The eagle and Ms. Johnson agrees with them as does Michelle. Everyone starts to argue and Stephen angrily tells them to stop their bickering and asks Ms. Johnson to lead them in prayer. Ms. Johnson leads the prayer and makes a prayer to celebrate Jesus. James asks for forgiveness, Candy asks that her family understand her relationship with The eagle, Robert Jr. prays for a life similar to Sam and Alex's. Michelle asks for the perfect person, Theresa asks for the children to be given sense, while Sam gives thanks for his success. Stephen closes out the prayer by asking God to show his family Christmas is about God's love and not earthly issues. They eat dinner and the family starts to argue again. Stephen tells everyone to go to bed. The next morning, Chrissy apologizes to Ms. Johnson and tells her she likes her present after complaining about it the night before.
