At the trial of Spotty Man, Ichabod Crane criticizes the way the courts treat evidence and prisoners in front of the High Constable and Burgomaster. The Burgomaster threatens to throw Crane into jail, but instead orders Crane to investigate a series of murders in the town of Sleepy Hollow.
