Before going to the zoo, Uncle Vernon warns Harry not to act up or he will not eat for a week.  Dudley sees the Burmese python moving and shoves Harry aside and Harry makes the glass disappear.  Dudley falls into the snake exhibit and the Burmese python tells Harry thanks as it slithers away.  The glass reappears and Uncle Vernon sees Harry laughing.  A Hogwarts owl drops off a piece of mail addressed to Harry.  Dudley sees Harry looking at his letter and takes it from  him and gives it to Uncle Vernon who keeps it when he notices it is from Hogwarts.  Day after day, more letters arrive from Hogwarts, which Uncle Vernon continues to rip up or burn.  On Sunday, the Dursley house is flooded with letters from Hogwarts and Uncle Vernon decides they are going to leave.  They go to a remote shack to live and on Harry's 11th birthday, [[Hagrid]] shows up and gives Harry a birthday cake.  Hagrid introduces himself to Harry and tells Harry he is a wizard, before handing Harry his acceptance letter from Hogwarts.  Uncle Vernon tells Hagrid, Harry will not be going to Hogwarts and Aunt Petunia insults Harry's mother [[Lily Potter]].  Uncle Vernon insults [[Albus Dumbledore]] and Hagrid makes Dudley grow a pig tail when he sees Dudley eating Harry's birthday cake.  Hagrid and Harry then leave and go to London.

Uncle Vernon calls for Harry.  Uncle Vernon, who is fixing Dudley's tie, tells Harry he better control [[Hedwig]].  When Harry asks if he can let Hedwig out of his cage, Uncle Vernon tells him no, because he is worried Hedwig will send a message to Harry's friends.  Harry then tells him none of his friends have written to him all summer.  Uncle Vernon warns Harry not to mess anything up when [[Mr Mason]] and [[Mrs Mason]] come to dinner.  Harry slowly follows the cake Aunt Petunia made for dinner with his arms outstretched to try and grab it as it travels towards Mrs Mason.  The cake falls on Mrs. Mason's head, covering her in cake and Uncle Vernon tells Mr Mason and Mrs Mason, Harry is disturbed.  He puts bars around Harry's windows and tells him he will never go back to Hogwarts or see his friends.  Harry hears a noise, and [[Ron Weasley]], [[Fred Weasley]] and [[George Weasley]] drive up to his window in their [[Ford Anglia]].  They pull the bars off Harry's window and Harry escapes with them just before Uncle Vernon grabs for him.

Uncle Vernon Dursley

Background

Vernon Dursely is a resident of 4 Privet Drive, Little Whinging, Surrey. He is married to Aunt Petunia Dursley and his son is Dudley Dursley. Vernon's nephew is Harry Potter, who he adopted.
