In the morning, Police Officer 1, Police Officer 2 and Police Officer 3 arrive at the boarding house and tell the Murderer that his neighbors complained of screams during the night. The Murderer, who was confident, let them in and smiled and joked with them. He told them that the Old Man is out of the country and brought them first to his room and then into the Old Man's room. The Murderer suddenly started to hear a dull rhythmic beating. He was sure that the Police Officers heard the noise, but they acted like nothing was wrong.
