Background

Sam Kennedy is a chef and owns his own restaurant in Los Angeles, California. His wife is Alex and his children are Stacey, Melanie, Pauley, and Lil Sam. His father is Stephen, his parents-in-law are Ms. Johnson and Mr. Johnson, his siblings are Theresa, Michelle and Money Mike and his siblings-in-law are Robert Jr. and Lisa. His nieces and nephew are Chrissy, Candy and James. Sam and Alex used to own another restaurant, but it went bankrupt. He grew up without a father.

During the events of Johnson Family Dinner (2008) played by Jerard Jones

On Sunday after church, Alex and her family arrive at Ms. Johnson's house and go to see Alexandria. Sam brings in some fish that he cooked and asks Mother to try it. After she takes a bite, Robert Jr. takes a bite and brings up how Sam's restaurant failed. Sam and Robert Jr. start to argue and Mr. Johnson stops them from fighting. Alex comforts Sam and tells him that they should open another restaurant. Lil Sam yells that dinner is ready and at dinner, Mr. Johnson starts off by giving thanks followed by the rest of the family. Alex announces that she and Sam are going to open another restaurant. Robert Jr. gets up to get some wine and goes back to the table and raises a toast to Sam and Alex and says may their new restaurant not be like their old one and that it be a success. A fight breaks out in the kitchen between Robert Jr. and Sam. Before Stacey leaves, Sam and Alex give her a gas card. Robert Jr. apologizes to Sam and they shake hands. Alex, Sam and their family then leave.

Six months later, Sam says the restaurant is doing well.

During the events of Johnson Family Christmas Dinner (2008) played by Jerard Jones

Sam walks up to the house with Theresa and Chrissy and they are greeted by Stephen and Ms. Johnson. Ms. Johnson asks where James and Candy are and Theresa tells her they will be there later. Candy and The eagle arrive and they go inside and Candy introduces The eagle to Stephen and Sam and they both make fun of him after The eagle leaves. As Sam is telling the family about opening up another restaurant, Robert Jr. walks in and then complains that Sam has all the luck while others like him don't have any. Sam has a conversation with Robert Jr. and tries to offer him advice, but Robert Jr. tells him he doesn't want his advice. Stephen and his family are about to start Christmas dinner when he suggests they stop to pray as it is tradition. Theresa tells everyone, Sam has something to tell everyone. Robert Jr. makes a sarcastic comment about being excited to hear the news. Candy tells everyone her and The eagle are moving in together. Theresa and Sam tell Candy she can't move in with The eagle and Ms. Johnson agrees with them as does Michelle. Everyone starts to argue and Stephen angrily tells them to stop their bickering and asks Ms. Johnson to lead them in prayer. Ms. Johnson leads the prayer and makes a prayer to celebrate Jesus. James asks for forgiveness, Candy asks that her family understand her relationship with The eagle, Robert Jr. prays for a life similar to Sam and Alex's. Michelle asks for the perfect person, Theresa asks for the children to be given sense, while Sam gives thanks for his success. Stephen closes out the prayer by asking God to show his family Christmas is about God's love and not earthly issues. They eat dinner and the family starts to argue again. Stephen tells everyone to go to bed. The next morning, Sam and Robert Jr. talk and Robert Jr. apologizes to him and tells him he is proud of him and Sam apologizes to Robert Jr. Sam then invites Robert Jr. to be his accountant and Robert Jr. accepts.
