Sir James Ross is a member of the Discovery Service for the British Royal Navy.  His uncle is [[Sir John Ross]].

Sir Ross and a [[Translator]] interview a [[Netsilik Hunter]] about the fate of the 1845 arctic voyage.  He mentions seeing starving men stumbling in the snow and a man called Aglooka.  Sir Ross pulls out three photos of men and the Translator asks the Netsilik Hunter if any of them is the one called Aglooka and the Netsilik Hunter points at [[Francis Crozier]].  The Netsilik Hunter tells them what Crozier told him, that he and his men are going home.  The Netsilik Hunter continues that the [[Tuunbaq]] was following them and that Crozier told him to tell those looking for him not to stay and that they are dead.  The Netsilik Hunter then shows them a set of military buttons.

November, 1847, [[Sophia Cracroft]] and [[Lady Jane Franklin]] have a meeting with the leaders of the Discovery Service, consisting of [[Sir John Barrow]], Sir John Ross and Sir James Ross, among others.  Sir Barrow tells them, no one has seen either ship recently.  He tells them they have nothing to worry about and Lady Jane Franklin reminds him that [[John Franklin]] wasn't their first or even third choice for expedition leader.  She asks that a search party be sent out and Sir John Ross agrees.  Sir James Ross tells Lady Jane Franklin that if no one has heard from the expedition by 1850, then he will search for them himself.
