After Rackham is captured, Rogers tells Eleanor that Rackham agreed to have the gold returned and Rackham has written a letter to be delivered to Anne by [[Lieutenant Hersey]].  Eleanor warns Rogers that Anne is dangerous, but Rogers assures her that Hersey is capable.  Hersey's body is brought back to Nassau, and Rogers tells Eleanor and Max that Anne must be found.

Eleanor tells Max that more of Rogers' troops are getting sick and if Hornigold's men didn't successfully secure the cache and Rackham, then they will be at war with Spain.  A wounded Rogers rides into town and is carried to see [[Dr. Marcus]].  While he is being attended to by Marcus, Rogers tells Eleanor that they captured Vane. Rogers asks Eleanor if he can trust her to keep her emotions concerning Vane from clouding her judgement and she tells him that when Rogers freed her, all she thought about was revenge and she doesn't know how she will react when she sees Vane.

Eleanor walks into Vane's cell and makes an offer to sign a confession which will allow him to be executed privately instead of through a public trial.  He tells her that he knows the only thing she cares about is revenge for Richard.  Vane calls Richard a cowardly shit who cared nothing for Eleanor.  As Eleanor is leaving, Vane tells her that Richard offered to give her up if Vane spared her and Eleanor starts to beat Vane and then calls Vane an unformed human.  Rogers has a meeting with his senior counselors and Dr. Marcus tells Eleanor that he has confined Rogers to bed after Rogers collapsed.  [[Mr. Soames]] asks Rogers how long they should wait for Hornigold to return with word that he has regained the cache.  Rogers tells his counsel that if Hornigold fails to recover the cache they will try again and that until he is well, Eleanor is to be given what messages they want to pass to him.  Rogers notices Eleanor's bruised knuckle and figures out she saw Vane.
Eleanor tells Mrs. Hudson that from now until Rogers gets better, only Eleanor and Dr. Marcus may see Rogers and Hudson is to attend Rogers.  Eleanor goes to see Max and Max tells her of the growing group of people in the market and that they may try to prevent Vane being put on any ship.  Eleanor says they can't hold a trial on Nassau as it could take weeks, while Max advises her to not take the easy way out.
Eleanor goes to see Rogers, who is still delirious, and tells him that what she is about to do is only to protect him.  After Vane's execution is set for the morning, Max tells Eleanor that the locals accepted the new authority, because they believed laws would be adhered to and that Vane's quick trial and execution appear counter to that.  She warns Eleanor that Vane's execution may lead to chaos, but Eleanor assures her that the decision was not made hastily.  Before Vane's execution, the [[Court Official]] tells the crowd that Rogers promised them order and prosperity.
The Court Official calls Vane an animal and an impediment to prosperity.  The Court Official asks if Vane has any last words.  Vane tells the crowd that the authorities fear not just him but the locals as Vane represents a freedom that still may exist in them.  A noose is put around Vane's neck and the cart he is standing on is ridden away.  Although Vane's neck snaps, he continues to spasm and [[Jacob Garrett]] and his men pull on Vane's body to end Vane's suffering. Chamberlain along with Perkins tells Eleanor that he notices that there are more ships beyond his own that are preparing to leave to fight the Maroons.  She tells him that Hornigold will be going with him along with men belonging to [[Captain Throckmorton]].

While Eleanor is talking with Soames, Max and Throckmorton show her a piece of paper with a black mark and a threat if Vane's body is not removed from the gibbet.  Throckmorton tells Eleanor that someone left it on the foot of his bed while he slept.  Throckmorton thinks it is an empty threat, but Max suggests they remove Vane's body to quell some of the unrest.  Soames thinks that removing the body would give the appearance that they are weak, and Eleanor agrees with him.  Dr. Marcus calls for Eleanor and she goes to see Rogers.  Rogers stares at Vane's body and tells Eleanor that he supports her decision to punish Vane.

Eleanor gets up and looks outside at the beach. Max wakes up and Eleanor tells her how when Richard ran things, the place was in chaos and filthy. She tells Max that a man-o'-war was spotted and she worries that the Royal Navy will come back to reclaim Nassau. Mr. Scott knocks on the door and asks to see Eleanor. Mrs. Mapleton is attending to a prostitute that was beaten up the night before when Eleanor asks what happened and Mrs. Mapleton tells her a member of the Ranger crew did it. As he is looking to sell his loot, Captain Bridge insults Eleanor and Mr. Scott and then scoffs at the amount she is willing to pay for his loot. After Bridge threatens to take his loot elsewhere, Vane walks up and challenges him and Bridge backs down after he hears who Vane is. Vane asks to speak with Eleanor and asks her to provide him with the same information she used to. She calls his men undisciplined and unruly and refuses to change things. Flint walks into Eleanor's place and asks to speak to Eleanor. Flint tells Eleanor that Richard is a fugitive and he has him on The Walrus. Flint tells her and Mr. Scott about the L'Urca de Lime. Flint explains his plan to Eleanor to increase the security of the island and for the pirates to become farmers.
